Crispy French Fries

Make restaurant-style crispy French fries at home with just a few simple ingredients. These fries are golden, crunchy outside and soft inside.

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes
  • Cold water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional)
  • Cooking oil for frying
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes if desired and cut them into even strips.
  2. Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Drain and dry the potatoes completely using paper towels.
  4. Lightly coat the fries with cornstarch for extra crispiness.
  5. Heat oil to 325°F (163°C).
  6. Fry the potatoes for about 5 minutes without browning them.
  7. Remove and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  8. Increase oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Fry again until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Season immediately with salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder.
  11. Serve hot with ketchup, mayonnaise or your favorite dipping sauce.
